Physical appearence matters for you getting a job ??

What i mean is, is it true, the employers dont like to employ over-weight or obese people? Or They only prefer handsome guys and sexy gals for their job? Well, i used to think quality of work was all that should matter when it comes to getting a job, so is it right to judge someone by his physic and not his skill for that job?

Yeap i think it's true, and also, here in France, we can't smoke in the enterprise. So smokers take few minutes to smoke out. So the Boss really don't appreciate it and now we can see that employers don't employ people who smoke.............

I think that employers choose people who they think dress professionally and act like it too. Some employers might do that, but I think most of them want employees who they know will do the job right and not get distracted.

I think there is a need for personality and appearance also. we cannot just employ intellect, i would say nerdy

I'd like to hope that this doesnt matter. But in my case, with my rubbish academical strengths then I'd like this to eb the case....:P

Anyway... Looking good is a good sign that you know how to take care of yourself and have self respect. Which is pretty much a necessity these days.

It matters little what people think of you, but in an employers case, the first impression always matters (how else would they evaluate a person whom they have just met?)

Instead of focusing on your lackings in physical appearence, try to focus on your personality. Good looks last only as far as your personality can bring you, especially when landing a job.

I think that it matters a lot. That is the first thing that they see when they look at you. A lot of people don't get job because if their look is different than others and they have some other problems. That should be changed.

I think personally any employer wants to hire a peron who can perform to the best of their abilities, if the job involves any physical strain, of course an employer is going to look at the physical appearance. Also jobs like secretaries or personal jobs like that would obviously go to someone young and pretty - either sex, as they basically only work for the one employer.

It's depends on where and what kind of job you are looking for. For example if you are going to get a job in modeling agency or customer services, appearance is the most important, but if you are going to get a job in any other job, such as office administrator, your talent/skill is important - not your appearance.

I think it's true, it's one of those really prejudice and biased things we have to face through every day of our lives. It really does suck, because some people can't help it and they have diseases, addictions, habits and problems. It's not really fair, and it shouldn't matter how tall or how heavy a person is, if they can do the same workload, what's wrong with them?
