Beware Of CPANEL 11 Update ~BUG~

This is more of an informational piece than anything.

If your currently using Cpanel 11 then this does not apply to you

For any users currently using Cpanel Vr 10+ that has not been updated to its current version and your site is dependent on Zend &/or IONCUBE Its strongly suggested you contact your provider asking for backup copies of both the above and http configurations.

Its a new bug that myself and my partner had just discovered which cpanel has just been notified of and agree there is a "slight" problem lol.

The problem with the update

After inspecting the server it looks as though cpanel throws out - and over rights the Zend and Ioncube conf & old Apache Configs.

Update Rollbacks will not work - Cpanel over rights Zend + Ioncube and removes old config files so no rollback is possible.

Users for example with shoutcast servers - This was our first server that took a big hit from this update.

- we had to hire a programmer to fix what the cpanel had broke - Cpanel still consulting management on reimbursement of the $200+ we paid to fix it.

If you are a web hosting provider its suggested that disable auto update and contact all your clients asking for them to create full backups and give them a specific time at which you will be manually updating your servers. Before doing so make sure to backup both zend and ioncube as well as http configs.

In our case with our servers a simple uninstall and reinstall of the scripts failed to correct or bring sites Dependant on the above files online. It took a professional programmer over 2hrs to fix cpanels configuration, to bring these sites back online.

Note: Cpanel is still investigating this bug, & we are not sure if its all or specific dependent scripts such as shoutcast that it effects. Just use caution
especially if you have clients involved.

Update

Cpanel has recently updated our support ticket stating that due to the fact the Zend and ION cube are third part scripts they will not be offering any compensation.

Be very carefull when updating if you are dependent on these scripts

i have updated around 20 servers
no issue yet
all servers have ioncube and zend
