I was thinking the same question.

Namepros use points for domains but we can't.
If we don't use it for anythings then point will be useless and will not worth anything.
I think we can integrate point with marketplace

Integration with the marketplace is possible.
And that would require a lot of custom coding and time.

I'm already puzzled on how to grant "managerial" permissions of Marketplace to a user other than Admins,
(so that Xavier can upload his creations [for sale] on his own, rather than giving it to me for upload).

Points can be used for :

- Giving away webhosting to users (currently its based on post count)

- Users can sell/buy things for points

- Giving as prizes of contests

- "Occasionally" giving away domains

Downside of points system :

- Say... a user registers, sells something for points and then redeems it for free hosting. We are at a loss now. As the user would have posted only a couple of posts, instead of the regular 40 or 50 posts to get the same package. Restrictions can always be placed, but that will only make things more complicated.

- Users can devalue the points. We can definitely stop 'cheap selling' of points "in" the forum, if required, but what about outside the Forum ? nobody can monitor what users do on IM networks or email.

- Security of the Forum. These big mods *can* compromise the forum's security. [vBPlaza/vBux has some serious security holes. the latest version of it costs 50$ and still has some issues. other points systems are not as good (in terms of features and use) as vbplaza]

Well, I think we can start the points system. Then the following rules can be implemented(just example)

1) Members need to have atleast 100+ posts and a required no. of points before they take any service from GeekPoint.

And as per devaluation of points,I did not completely understand what you are trying to say.I mean how will that harm GP?
