phpBB 3 is finally Released

Well, for the phpBB fans, its the thing you have been waiting for. phpBB3 is released yesterday. The countdown to the release was a good fun which I enjoyed and was there at the party(sort of!!). The official announcement is like this,

They have managed a comparision between the forum scripts where they are making it look like phpBB is better than vB(well I doubt). Can take a look here.

Anyway the script for free is great. I am using it for building one of my forum. It is cool in the outlook and has good features. Lets see how things goes.

IMO, It won't and never be above vB.

Customisable Attachment Placement: No
Its Yes, it just needs a simple template edit to accomplish.
Founder Status/Board Creator: No
Yes, it can be achieved thru editing the User Title, and/or adding a particular user to a special usergroup.
Manage Group Memberships (in AdminCP): No
Yes, it is manageable.
Right to Left Support: - (no answer)
Yes, some sub-forums at vBSEO.com utilize it too.
User Notes: - (no answer)
Yes, it is available. (But i have disabled it here in GeekPoint)
Merging Posts: - (no answer)
Yes, vB does it. (I utilize this feature every now and then)
Copying Topics: - (no answer)
Yes for this too.
Manage Bans: - (no answer)
Yep. vB has the best warning, infraction and banning system.

And the list goes on....
So, clearly the comparison is obviously not fair enough. and contains erroneous information.

I was waiting for this from some months. finally they released it.
@Shadab . vB is better then this but phpBB is free and vB is paid.

I dont like either vB or PHPBB, SMF is most custmisable.

I have tried vB, phpBB, IPB, myBB, SMF etc.
vB is most customizable and feature loaded

No doubt guys that vB is most enriched Bulletin Board but that should be the case as they get a Hell lot of money for that. And Armaan is right in saying, being free phpBB is not that bad. Anyway, just hope to see some more mods released for the version.

BTW, vB is also planning for a new release which as per their announcement sounds great. Just forgot the link, might give you if you haven't heard already(I suppose you know it

by now).

Thanks Shadab for the links, I was not inclined to go to the vB forum now. Thanks for the helping hand. The features proposed are great. Just that it's a bit costly.

well... the comparision page shows that phpbb3 is better than all other..
lets see if it is really that good , can someone here try it out ??
then we can have results..
it looks pretty good at the comparision page. but who knows what the truth is..
