I am planning on upgrading my green forum from phpBb3 to a paid forum software. But I am having an hard time to decide which one to get. vBulletin or IPB, what do you think?

I like the profile/member pages that IPB offers. Those makes the forum look more like a community than an "ordinary forum".

Hmm I dont know. Just because a majority uses it doesnt mean it's the best. And it seems like more, let say, proffesional sites, like SciFi etc etc, uses IPB instead of vBulletin.

What kind of new features?

From what I've seen the admin panel looks much better in IPB than vBulletins does.

vBulletin should be your top choice. Because of it's high customizability.

The upcoming version of vB (ie, 3.7) contains a lot of new social/community features.
Some of them are :

1. Customizable member profile pages

2. Visitor messages (similar to a scrapbook, for those who are familiar with orkut.com)

3. User galleries
(users can create their albums and upload pictures in it)

4. Social groups or communities
(groups have their own separate page, albums and discussions/chat area)

My periodic table contains only 1 element : the element of Surprise.

That sounds interesting, especially the last one. How much will the members be able to customize their profile pages? Will they be similar to an IPB profile page?

When is this new version expected to come out?

Currently the vBuletin version 3.7 is in Beta stages.

Beta 5 to be exact. If the sources are to be trusted, this would be the last beta release of 3.7
After this, a couple of RC versions (release candidates) will be released.

Then finally the vB 3.7 GOLD (ie, Full release) will be released.

It may take a month or two more to reach 3.7 gold.

They can change the colors, the background images, privacy options, etc.
( Sample : My Profile at vbseo.com )

Those profile pages looks goodie. But IPB already has that.

And I dont know if I want to wait for the new update. I've waited a looong time for phpBB3 to get to gold.. Sure, it was worth the wait, but still.

I think I will go with IPB. They got some nice features that vBulletin currently miss and they got, in my opinion, an easier forum navigation and structure than vBulletin.

Thanks for your help - but I think im going with IPB.

vBulletin is the best paid forum solution. Have tried and tested and bought IPB and vB; vB is way better and more admin-friendly.

Free solution, try MyBB. Though phpBB is looking pretty sweet as well:
phpBB • Comparison of phpBB to other Popular Forum Solutions

Well, I disslike the vBulletin panel. I think it's ugly. Even the phpbb3 admin panel is better, in my opinion.

Well, that list isnt the best one. PhpBB doesnt list all features, like quick reply etc..
