How to Use Increase Your Bandwidth - 02-09-2008

How to Increase Your Bandwidth
Microsoft is holding out on 20% of your bandwidth...Now you can get it back

NOTE: This may only be able to be used with XP Pro. Yes it's true. Did you know that a non edited Microsoft system holds on to 20% of your available bandwidth for updates and other things? Well they do, and you should get it back without hesitation. I'll do a quick guide to help you have your system the way it's supposed to be.

STEP 1: Go to Start > Run > Then type: gpedit.msc

Now Click o.k. And you should see the Group Policy Editor Window open.

STEP 2: Go To - Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Network > QOS Packet Scheduler > Limit Reservable Bandwidth

Step 3: Double click on Limit Reservable Bandwidth.
Click Properties > Enable Reservable Bandwidth > Input "0" > Click OK

STEP 4: Stare at that big 20% that Microsoft holds on to. Curse it, laugh at it, then reclaim it. Make the 20 a 0. Then select Apply > O.K.

You should now have your bandwidth back. No more reservation for Bill Gates & Co.

This tweak works if you are only doing one thing at a time on the net, for example; it will speed up downloads but slow down browsing if you are trying to browse to other sites while you are downloading.
It is there to make sure you will always have enough bandwidth to browse ect. If you disable it or reduce it below 20% then all bandwidth goes to whatever you chose to do first and everything else is slowed down because it has to wait until there is enough bandwidth released again.

I wouldn't recommend using it as an overall internet speedup tweak because it isn't one. I know there are some glitches in Windows but most settings of this type are there for a reason. Microsoft may not be perfect but they do know a lot more about Windows than the average dude sitting at home in front of his PC
