| Google FAQ - Learn them Easy -
12-22-2007
Hi all, This is originally taken from Google FAQ [DigitalPoint Version] This help everyone to understand about Google very easy and simple. It saves time. When is the next Google PageRank Update? Google updates their PageRank database regularly but only release them to the Google Toolbar once every 3 months (approx.). The following link estimate the date of the next Google Toolbar update: http://www.seocompany.ca/pagerank/pa...date-list.html Why is my page showing different PageRank to different users? Google has different data centers to serve different users in various locations. Therefore, it takes time for all the data centers to show the acutal PR during the Google Toolbar PageRank Update. The following link will show the PR of a page for different data centers: Live PR | Live Pagerank | Check Your PageRank | PageRank Checker How can I increase my PageRank? There is only one way to increase PR: Inbound Links. PR is calculated from the number of incoming links (taking into consideration of their PRs / number of links as well) to your page. Where and how can I submit my site to Google? Most webmasters do not submit their sites to the search engines as they are optimized to find our sites on the net. Despite of this, you may speed things up by: 1) Submitting a Google Sitemap. 2) Create links to your site on a page that regularly visited by the Google bots. 3) Manually submit to Google just for reassurance ![]() If I have changed my site content, how long does it takes the bots to visit my site again? The frequency of the indexing is determined by the page importance and the content freshness. The higher is the page's PR and more often you update the content, the more often you will see the bots re-visiting your page. Alternatively you can re-submit your Google sitemap to alert them. Why is Google not showing all my backlinks? Where can I check for all the sites that linked to my page? Unfortunately, Google choose not to display all the backlinks to a page. In addition, they only update the backlink index once every few months. Always use Yahoo or MSN to check backlinks. You can use Mong's Backlink Watch to have an overview of all the backlinks to your page. You can also use my Yahoo Powered Backlink Checker to see the number of pages (internal, external, top ten) that linked to your page. Will my site get banned by Google if I obtain many inbound links in a short period of time? The answer to this question is NO. This is the same answer to the questions: Will my site get banned if I was linked from a bad / banned site? Will my site get banned if my site was submitted to search engines many times? Search Engines understand that it is beyond the respective webmasters' control to decide where will their links appear. If search engines penalize these acts, then our competitors will submit our links to tons of banned sites, search engines and bad neighborhoods. I have heard that Google favors domain names with special extension like .gov and .edu. Is this true? No, Google does not favors these domains. In fact, other search engines do not consider this as well. The reason why certain .edu / .gov sites enjoy a better ranking / PR is because more pages were linked to them because the information is more reliable. My site has been up for several months but still has yet been indexed by Google, is my site banned? Possible. To confirm if your site is banned. Follow the procedures: 1) Log on to your Google sitemap account and see if the bots have visited your site. 2) If your site has been visited by the bots several times but have yet to be indexed, most probably your site is banned. 3) You will need to submit a re-inclusion request to Google explaining what have you done to comply with the webmaster Guidelines or is this a new domain that you have bought over from someone. How can I tell Google to enable Sitelinks? The links shown below some sites in our search results, are known as Sitelinks. To date, Google state that these are completely automated: http://www.google.com/support/webmas...y?answer=47334 Other Official Answers / Tips from Google: Why doesn't my site show up for a specific keyword? How can I create a Google-friendly site? More about changing domain names. Which one is better? Dashes or Underscores? What are the differences between algorithm updates and data refreshes? Hope that this FAQ will help out some of the members so that we can have a more fruitful discussion on some other issues. Thanks.
