Laptop buying help - any suggestions? - 11-13-2007

Hi,

I am wanting to buy a new laptop. I have been using my last one for the past three years. It basically started showing up problems within the first year. I need one that I can use pretty heavily, with a good battery, and one that doesn't overheat too quickly. Its needs to be sturdy, I have kids around the house, and they do tend to knock things over a lot.

I also need a decent amount of space. The cd/dvd burner in my last laptop broke over 3 times, and the battery went bad after a year so I could only use it with a powercable. It was always quite slow at starting up. I have always used Windows and am not used to any other OS. I will be using it for programming day and night, and also for alot of media, animation, videos.

Is there anything anyone can suggest ? Is there one that may be less heavy/not as big too so I can comfortably carry it and use it where I want, at the same time as having a good quality screen?

Thank you in advance.

Look for models from Dell or Toshiba.
IMHO, they are one of the best out there in the market.

Thanx,
Shadab.

But if you have a high budget available, I'll personally recommend Sony Viao.

Thanks guys. Ive been going through different specs on websites and stores like best buy & circuit city. But Im not really confident that Ive found anything much different to what I had before. Dont you think the sony vaio casing is a bit flimsy? Ive never owned one, but it doesnt seem too durable? I am definately willing to pay extra for a durable, and good performance machine. Can anyone suggest a particular model they prefer?

For stylish computers, i would refer you to Alienware.

They have some really amazing Desktops and Notebooks.

Hi,

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. Ive previously read the articles suggested. I was considering the HP Pavilion TX1320US (tablet/notebook PC). What do you think? Do you feel that I should wait for the next version of this to come out?

Thanks

I searched for it on buy.com, and found this :
Buy.com - HP Pavilion TX1320US Entertainment Notebook

Looks like a good machine.
Its a dual core and has 2Gigs of RAM. (Cool.. !)

But one thing you may try reconsidering is the HD Space.
It has a 250GB SATA Hard Disk Drive.

Would you really require that big amount of space ?

If you won't use it for storing HD Quality movies and big games,
then i would suggest you getting a smaller HD, something in the range of 120GB - 160GB.

Thanx,
Shadab.
