Exclamation Microsoft Bids $44.6 Billion for Yahoo - 02-01-2008

Microsoft Bids $44.6 Billion for Yahoo

In a bold move to counter Google’s online pre-eminence, Microsoft said Friday that it had made an unsolicited offer to buy Yahoo for about $44.6 billion in a mix of cash and stock. It would be Microsoft’s largest acquisition ever.

Microsoft said the combination of the two companies would create efficiencies that would save approximately $1 billion annually. The software giant also said that it has an integration plan to include employees of both companies and intends to offer incentives to retain Yahoo employees.

Despite their heavy investments in online services, both Yahoo and Microsoft have watched Google extend its dominance over Internet search and the lucrative online advertising business that goes along with it.

Microsoft said it believes the Yahoo transaction could receive the necessary regulatory approvals in time to close by the second half of this year.

I think even then Google will stay as it is because,Google is a brand name.Whoever searches the net,now uses the word Googling. So Google has become a brand and it is impossible to defeat a Demon in his prime!

Yep. Even Microsoft and Yahoo combined won't be able to take on Google
in the coming years.

But then nobody can remain in the Top spot for decades.
10 years or so before, the Yahoo and Ask (Jeeves) were the big thing. Yahoo was dominating.
See where they are now!

Yeah,Thats true but even then Google has become the favorite of almost 100 times the people that used to surf the net in 1995 or so.So,unless something better comes out and comes out hard,Google is not gonna feel the heat!

Microsoft : The monopolist in the 'offline' world.
Google : The monopolist in the 'online' world.

But yeah! Google will get some increased competition,
if this merger gets done.

Damn, Bill Gates is so rich. Richest man on earth. Yes, even with Microsoft and Yahoo combined, they can't take on Google.

It is the simplicity the relativity of results which Google gives that sets it apart!
