Basics of SEO

SEO stand for Search Engine Optimization.It is a technique of opmtimizing your websites for the search engines like Google,Yahoo,Ask,MSN,Altavista .What is the need of doing SEO to a site? Well,today almost 60% of your users come from Search engines and thus Search Engine become an extremely important source of traffic to your website.Optimizing your website for search engine will return in better pageranks and thus your website will be more visible to the visitors.Thus you will get more visitors.So Search Engine Optimization becomes important.In this post,I am covering the basics of what should be done for doing proper SEO basically.

Picking a domain name - A short,memorable domain name is good if it is brandable.But if not,choose a domain name which has atleast the primary keywords in it(I will explain keywords later).If you are working on a real long term project,a memorable domain name would serve best.

Registering domain name and hosting - When you have chosen what your domain name is got to be,it’s time to register with a domain registrar if its available.You should prefer ICANN accredited registar.The extension of the domain should preferably be .com as long as it is memorable.
If it is not,you can always choose .net , .org and others.Hosting your website is not any problem.You can search for many hosting services depending on your needs.I would recommend HostGator.Make sure your host has all the technology you need.

Searching for Keywords - Keyword searching is probably the most important part of your Search Engine Optimization process.The more extensive it is,the more better you will get.Use a Keyword tool (Keyword tools - Google Search) to select keywords.Aim of using keyword phrases rather than just individual words .Have different keywords for different pages.

Optimizing your page : Some basic points are given below.More extensive description would be there in coming posts.

1) Use your main keywords in the page title.Like on this page title there is SEO,which is the basic and most important

keyword for this site.Similarly put the most important keyword on the beginning of the title

2) Meta tags(which I will explain later) are useful though not that much necessary.

3) Write for the visitors not for the Search Engine,you will see that visitors read your articles or whatever on the site.

4) Make sure the keyword density is correct.That is not too low and not too high either.

Meta Tags are very useful and recomended by yahoo.

Beginners should care about on page optimization first, and after they have all their keywords on page title descriptions and tags and after they have created a nice in link interface they should care about getting backlinks from other sites

Nice info, if images are on the site, use ALT attributes to describe appropriately what the image is about.
