No, It differs from SE to SE. if you optimize for msn it will affect google. if you optimize for yahoo it affect msn like that. as i already said it is a lengthier process you have to decide which Se supplies quality traffic to you

Most of us say google / google . for most of the cases it is true as it supplies traffic but is thia a quality traffic? Hmm? if you search some thing on Google & cant find then which SE you use ? Yahoo , you have to work considering that also.

Generally I wouldn't spend too much time to SEO. If you have a professionally designed website, search engines will honor this (respectively having a professional website with quality contents IS the best SEO you can get :-)

Beside some websites living from ad banner views, a high number of visitors does not guarantee success in business.

This is true , have been considering this point lately, better to have 10 visitors a day and make 1 sale , or conversion or sign up etc ( depending on your site ) rather than 100 's of un targeted visitors just wasting yours, and their bandwidth

No, since each search engine have their own unique algorithm, SEO is not common to all Search engine. But Google being considered to the best Search engine so generally people try to performed SEO activities according to Google
