I am not sure the time they spend on a web site is a key factor. I do read how many times clicks on the back button on a browser may affect your ranking. But that factor may hard to get since that involves some searchers privacy data. A site map isn't necessary. It helps search engine to find out how a site looks like but it is not going help your ranking.
