for me, yes it is. even though the outcome is very slow, it still a good way to build links because if done properly, you'll get quality link in an instant.

Well, I respect your opinion, but linking your site into a good website which is in your niche or related to your website is an important thing because it can help you in driving targeted audience to your site.

And in some occasions.... it can be a source of income especially when your site has good traffic and high PR.

Thats Right Micoblanco but for SEO, google doesnt give much weight age to it. even according to the new SEO guide coming up even Forum signatures will not have that importance as it used to be before. Therefore now we need to concentrate on other good ways of link building.

Link exchange is beneficial and never harmful. The only way it can be harmful is that if you do too many link exchanges. Also, if those link exchanges are with sites that are not related to yours.

For me, Link exchange is very important. Why? I can get quality backlink and Deep link from site have higher PR than me. And Free cost.
