Actually I am now working with the company doing search engine optimization. It's really new in my ears, and at first I don't know why I am doing this link exchange and what benefit would the company get in doing this.

Link exchanges are still profitable if:
They are from Relevant and High PR sources
They are not from Link Farms
They are not Reciprocal Links
They are not paid link exchanges

Even Link exchange is profitable if you have back links from .gov or .org sites. Google give quite a lot weight age to these as well.

But i think it is very difficult to get backlink from .gov or .org sites.
If you know how to get backlink from there than please tell me.

Yes definitely link exchange is profitable but you must have trading your link with your relevant theme and good PR so 100% link exchange is profitable...
