Sitemaps makes easier navigation and better visibility by search engines. It offer the opportunity to inform search engines immediately about any changes on your site, the changes will be indexed faster, compared to when you don't have a sitemap.

Like the name SITEMAP is map of your website. Means you can show your all pages link in a single page. This would help you lots because any one can check your sitemap and can choose pages according to his requirement.

there are two kinds of sitemaps.... the xml sitemap and the html sitemap. these two sitemaps are both effective in indexing your site. but the html sitemap is more useful because it doesn't only index your site but also, it helps your subpages to get indexed too. this html sitemap serves as a guide for your visitors. they can access the page they wanted to go to if they got lost on the middle of your site
