I have used both.

Mac makes a very solid OS, which since it is now Unix based is very powerful and functional. I use Linux on my personal computer though. Really my only real dislike for Macs is the proprietary stance they have taken, well that and their price, which is related to their proprietary stance on software/hardware.

I have used a mac (well I haven't had one personally, but I plan to, hopefully in the near future) - Never tried Linux, I just never had gotten round to it, but I have had plans too...

Tried to install Linux (Ubuntu) on my PC,
but it failed.

The first time I tried to install Ubuntu using the default CD, it failed for me as well. I had to use the "alternate cd" in order to get it to install.

Just find a mirror near you and then select the iso file with "alternate" in its name. For instance "ubuntu-8.04-alternate-i386.iso" would be the one that worked for me.

It would take hours for me to download those CD Images.

Aren't these "alternate" ISO's available as physical CD's too ?
