I used to host my own sites, but switched to paid hosting mostly because I wanted to have an extra layer between my sites and my home. I still have my chrooted apache/domain file system zipped up though and break it out if I need to transfer a file from home or something. I always used a dedicated server though when hosting sites, but will use my personal pc as a temporary file server if needed. can help. | ||

You can definitively do so if you run a personal website - with a dynamic DNS service, it should be no matter. However without having the appropriate background knowledge about server administration, it is definitively no choice for a business website. Furthermore consider that most ISPs do not allow this way of Internet usage over their backbones. Also when running a server, the upload speed is important (and most ADSL lines have a horrible upload speed of less than 384 KBit/s).
